Unmasking the Gospel in 2021: Corrie, TWR MOTION Video Intern

By Rosie McMahan
Americas
Missions is nothing new to Corrie. She grew up as a missionary kid and never planned to follow in her parent’s footsteps, but God broke her heart for lost souls without Christ. Corrie learned about TWR from some family friends who had served with the organization in the past, and she began to take interest in the video production team. Due to her interest in media for evangelical purposes, she found a home for the summer with TWR MOTION. Although Corrie is serving remotely, she is thrilled to visit the TWR office in Cary, North Carolina, this month!

Corrie was born in Southern California but grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and overseas in East Asia. She is a rising senior at Biola University, double majoring in Intercultural Studies and Journalism with a concentration in Visual Media. Because Corrie has the unique opportunity to serve with TWR MOTION remotely, she will be gathering film and content from her local area for use in various upcoming MOTION projects.

Q: How did you hear about TWR?
I heard about TWR through some missionary friends who have worked with TWR in the past.

Q: What caused you to get involved in the internship program with TWR?
Initially, I was planning on serving with TWR’s video production department, but I felt like God was calling me to step into a role that focused more on using media for evangelistic purposes. I discovered an organization called Media to Movements which led me to interview with TWR MOTION.

Q: Have you always been interested in missions?
No, in fact I was opposed to missions for most of my life, because I didn’t want to be like my missionary parents. However, God has a sense of humor, and he broke my heart for unreached people groups during my first year of college. I have had a passion for global missions ever since.

Q: What projects are you going to be involved in?
This summer I am working with TWR MOTION to film B-roll (supplemental footage) of various cultural hubs near where I live. I am also transcribing interviews, reading past interviews and possibly producing some new content.

Q: Are there any challenges you have or anticipate experiencing? How will you face them?
Working virtually is difficult, but it was needed for this summer due to some unforeseen circumstances. However, I have been welcomed with open arms by the TWR MOTION team. I’ve also learned to work somewhere outside of where I sleep and to set a schedule for myself in order to be productive virtually.

Q: What are you most looking forward to during your internship?
I get to travel to the TWR office in mid-July! I’m excited to meet the TWR MOTION team in person and work together with them.

Q: What is your biggest goal for this summer?
My biggest goal is to come away from this summer knowing more about how media can be used in a non-profit. More specifically, I want to feel confident in the media skills that I can offer nonprofits and missions organizations so that I can be a part of furthering God’s kingdom.

Q: What are your post-college plans?
My dream job would be to work as a staff photographer or videographer overseas for a missions organization or nonprofit.

Q: Fun fact: what’s the weirdest food you’ve ever eaten?
I’ve eaten grasshoppers before! Believe it or not, they kind of taste like French fries.
