Joining God’s Work in the World: Raeann, TWR Marketing Video intern

By Malise Terrell
Americas, Global, Internship (2-3 mo.), Marketing, USA
14 June 2023

Raeann Goetz joins the TWR Marketing Video team as a summer intern at the Americas headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. A senior at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota, studying media production and public relations focusing a lot of her time learning radio and audio production. She is a film major and Raeann shares, “I'm excited to build my skills in that area. I also can't wait to meet a bunch of people and hear some amazing stories.”

At her university, Raeann was familiar with TWR because the global ministry sponsored her school’s film festival in the past. She says, “I didn’t really know anything about the organization or internship opportunities until Jennifer Bozeman, TWR’s U.S. coordinator of college recruiting, came to one of my classes to talk. … She mentioned that my school was sponsoring a couple of interns. I knew I had to at least apply.”

Fortunate to have worked with two Christian radio stations in Minnesota’s Twin Cities area, Raeann gained experience in a variety of video projects which includes film, editing and production as a visual storyteller. These skills will be vital to her contribution to the global marketing video team. One area of growth Raeann anticipates the most this summer is advancing her video skills.

Along with learning the job and excelling as an intern, being a thousand miles from home is itself a challenge for a college student. Memorial Day weekend was her first holiday away since moving to North Carolina.

“It is quite hard,” she says. “I’m thankful for video chat, but it is not the same.”

One of the most difficult things will be missing her domestic short-haired tabby cats, Maisie and Mac. She misses them badly already. “Nothing beats lying with them in bed after a stressful day, and it is hard not being able to do that.”

Her favorite thing about TWR is the people. She already feels surrounded by warm, welcoming people who genuinely want to get to know her. She finds it reassuring.

“I may be away from my family, but I feel like I am becoming a part of a new family.”

Raeann’s passion for storytelling comes through when she is asked what she is most excited about in her internship. Her response is clear: “To hear and share people’s stories.”

Tyler Church, Global Marketing and Communications Video director, welcomes her to the team and says:

“We need young people to step in to provide input and expertise to push the envelope with changing strategies and technologies. Raeann fits right in with her can-do attitude and enthusiasm that is contagious.”

New adventures await. While in the South this summer, Raeann wants to enjoy North Carolina versions of some of her favorite foods – pierogies and mac and cheese. “Really, anything that involves pasta, cheese and/or potatoes.” Her Southern co-workers assure her that she’s in the right place!

While in North Carolina, Raeann hopes to work on her clay sculpting skills in her free time creating small animals, earrings and charms. Recently, she bought some new air-dry clay and looks forward to sculpting it.

Ultimately, she wants to be a light for Christ wherever she goes. Her favorite verse reflects just that.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

“This is the theme verse for my university’s film festival, and it has been continuously motivating for my life.”
