Joining God’s Work in the World: Meggie, TWR graphic design intern

Meggie is serving as a graphic design intern in the Marketing and Communications department this summer.Meet Meggie Kleveland, a native of Forest City, Iowa! A senior graphic design student at Dordt University in Sioux Center, Iowa, she serves in the TWR Marketing and Communications department in Cary, North Carolina, as a graphic design summer intern.

When researching summer internships, Meggie initially looked close to home. But TWR stood out to her.

“It was a graphic design internship AND in ministry, the two things I was looking for this summer, so I thought I might as well apply just because, and the rest is history. TWR was by far the most personal and intentional, so it really stuck out to me as an incredible ministry to be a part of.”

She hopes to be challenged while gaining experience in graphic design and seeking God’s guidance for her post-college life, which is fast approaching. She is open to what God will teach her this summer.

Of course, I expect to grow in my graphic design skillset, but I really think I’m going to end up learning more about this ministry and how God is working in the world than anything else – I already have discovered so much and seen more of the glory of God unveiled in just the first few weeks here,” Meggie said.

Jeannine Klingbeil, graphic designer and Meggie’s supervisor, said, Meggie has been a great addition to our team this summer. I’ve given her a very challenging project and she has tackled it with creativity and tenacity. I’m excited to see it coming together and think it will impact our ministry for years to come.”

Meggie and her familyThere are many new things for Meggie to navigate this summer. The Raleigh area has a population of 1.5 million people; her hometown and college town both have less than 10,000 people. Also, Meggie points out, there is a big difference in office life which enables her to work in her field of graphic design all day. This is exhausting in a different way than campus life or when she was working at a Christian camp the past four summers

Meggie had hoped she could work near home this summer, after being away at college and serving as a summer camp counselor the past several years. However, God had other plans, and he made it clear to her, as she is sure of her calling to serve with TWR this summer. Though excited that she can grow in her graphic design skills as an intern and not just have “a random job,she misses being with her family, talking with her mom and getting her hugs. Upon noting that her sister lives in nearby Raleigh, she says, “It has been good to be able to see her and have a piece of home right here!”

Meggie, fellow interns and TWR staff member, Jennifer Bozeman, enjoy some fun local activities during her internship.Meggie is confident in her decision this summer as she has discovered a few favorite things about TWR.

“I think the coolest thing I’ve been able to witness at TWR is how selflessly committed everyone is. They truly WANT to work here and see it as a gift, not just a way to make a living. The sheer number of staff who have been with TWR for multiple decades is proof of the incredible dedication TWR staff have to this ministry. People are passionate about what they do and WHY they do it, and there is strong community here.”

A true creator and designer, Meggie enjoys watercolor painting, so she is developing her skill while living in North Carolina. She loves public speaking and will eagerly lead a staff devotion later this month. Her professional aspiration includes designing book covers and having some artwork or a devotional sold at Hobby Lobby. As North Carolina is the first coastal state she has visited, Meggie – and the entire marketing department – is excited for her to see the ocean for the first time!
