Solar panels on a roof.

September 2023

It is with joy that we share with you the wonderful news of the successful installation and activation of the new solar power system at the TWR Africa Support Center in Johannesburg, South Africa. Our hearts are filled with gratitude as we reflect on the journey that has led us to this moment, and we give glory to the Lord for his unwavering faithfulness and provision throughout this endeavour.

People working on a roof to install solar panels. This project stands as a testament to the power of faith and partnership. Our primary goal was to implement a solar power solution that not only curtails electricity expenses but also serves as a sustainable alternative during periods of erratic power supply in the commercial grid, often referred to as "load shedding". Moreover, we aimed to reduce our dependence on diesel fuel for backup generators, aligning ourselves with the principles of environmental stewardship that we hold dear.

The implementation of the solar power solution has already begun to yield promising results, thanks to God's grace and the generous support of our donors. We anticipate a substantial reduction of 50% to 70% in our electricity expenses, which will enable us to allocate more resources to our mission and programs. By reducing our reliance on diesel fuel for backup generators, we are taking proactive steps to diminish our environmental footprint and mitigate future generator operating and replacement costs. The solar power system provides a stable source of electricity during periods of grid instability, ensuring uninterrupted service for our vital operations. Our staff now experience minimal disruptions due to commercial electricity interruptions.

First and foremost, we extend our profound gratitude to God for his divine guidance and abundant provision throughout this journey. We firmly believe that every good and perfect gift originates from him, and indeed, he orchestrated this project by bringing dedicated individuals into our path who played indispensable roles:

  • Steve Stavropoulos – solution architect: Steve's expertise and visionary insights were pivotal in the selection of a contractor and the design of a solar power system that perfectly aligns with our needs and our commitment to sustainability.
  • Sipho Mahlangu – operational manager: Sipho's unwavering dedication and meticulous attention to detail will ensure the seamless monitoring and operation of the new system.
  • Jason Mills – facilities manager: Jason's crucial involvement in overseeing the physical implementation of the solar power system within our facilities cannot be overstated.
  • Jonathan Botha – logistics support: Jonathan's steadfast support was invaluable in a wide array of tasks, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.

We would also like to express our gratitude to our diligent finance team for their responsible management of the financial aspects of this project.

To God be the glory.
