Nepal is one of the world's poorest nations, with many of its 27 million people living high in the Himalaya Mountains. Child labor and a lack of basic education are common problems. Less than 1 percent of the population is Christian, and one of TWR’s highest priorities is to reach the children of Nepal with a media strategy combined with supportive social initiatives such as meals and education.
The program Children’s Garden is aired on five FM stations in Nepal, and through it, TWR has been sharing the gospel with music and dramatized Bible stories while also encouraging children to join their local churches. TWR’s staff members and volunteers, in partnership with church leaders, meet face-to-face with children, parents, and Sunday-school teachers to ensure a sustained approach to discipleship.
TWR’s classes for 85 children in two slum areas have provided basic math and language skills, and 65 of the students have been allowed by their parents to enroll in school.
In the next year, along with TWR Nepal’s ministry strategy for children, we are hoping to develop gospel programs in four languages spoken by unreached people groups in Nepal: Kham Magar, Tharu, Bhojpuri, and Tamang. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help sustain TWR’s outreach to Nepal.
