The population of the Philippines – about 96 million – is predominantly Christian and Roman Catholic. But worldly values depicted in popular media have had a negative impact on youth in the areas of premarital sex, unwanted pregnancies, dropping out of school, and drug abuse.
Through a combination of FM radio programs and on-the-ground follow-up, TWR seeks to minister to children, youth, and women.
Little Lights is a creative radio drama for children, including Bible stories and practical life skills. Absolutely 24/7 is a music and biblical discussion program for Filipino youth that challenges them to live their lives for Christ 24/7. Through Women of Hope in three languages, TWR’s Filipino Project Hannah team offers a listening ear and biblical counsel to women seeking advice on issues such as unwanted pregnancies and abortion.
And as a result of the catastrophic typhoon Haiyan in late 2013, TWR is broadcasting a one-hour daily program produced in the Philippines to address the psychological and spiritual needs of those who have been impacted by disaster. Topics address how to deal with losing a loved one, the loss of property, making a child feel safe after a disaster, and how to find God in the midst of such devastation.
