Like others around the world, the youth of India are using the internet to find answers for the challenges they face – pressure to perform in school, financial woes, relationships, addictions, career decisions, and thoughts of suicide. They spend their time on social media through their mobile phones.
TWR wants to share Jesus as the ultimate solution to these challenges. “The younger generation – 70 percent of India is under age 35, and 31 percent under age 15 – will shape India’s future,” according to the prayer guide Operation World (7th Edition). TWR’s strategy is to meet these tech-savvy youths where they hang out – online.
Using videos, blogs and articles in a social media campaign called More Than Bread, TWR India is addressing these important issues with biblical content that engages young people. When they respond, trained counselors of TWR India connect with the youth and talk about the issues they are facing, sharing the hope of Christ with them. The campaign started in February 2016 with More Than Bread ads shared on social media.
TWR India’s counseling includes an explanation of who Jesus is and how he is the answer to each need. For those youths who make a commitment to follow Jesus, TWR provides guidance in doing so. A total of $15,000 is needed to sustain this next-generation initiative in India.
