TWR joined evangelicals around the world in celebrating the life of Chuck Smith, a broadcast and digital partner of the international media ministry and pastor of Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa.
The 86-year-old Smith, best known for his thorough expository preaching and key role in the Jesus movement of the 1960s and ’70s, died early Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, after a very public battle with lung cancer. Through his widely distributed radio program The Word For Today, Smith became a media partner of TWR in 2006, and in 2013 his program was among the ministries joining TWR360, a state-of-the-art Web portal, soon after its launch.
“Chuck Smith was a man of tremendous vision,” said TWR President Lauren Libby. “He introduced countless people to Jesus Christ during his lifetime, and I’m thankful for all he accomplished for the kingdom of God.”
TWR broadcasts The Word For Today to more than 50 countries and regions in four languages. In all, TWR broadcasts Christian programming to about 160 countries in more than 230 languages.
Another TWR media partner, Chuck Swindoll, whose Insight for Living program is also broadcast in multiple languages and countries, tweeted his own thoughts after the announcement of Smith’s death: “I'm exceedingly grateful today for the exemplary life and profound ministry of my friend Chuck Smith.”
