I've certainly heard of the Northern Caucasus, but I must admit that I don't know that much about the region.  In fact, I discovered that I had originally misspelled "Caucasus."  I guess that I need to take the advice of several of my former English teachers: "If you don't know how to spell a word, or if you read a word and don't know what it means, look it up."  So, if you aren't overly familiar with the Northern Caucasus, I encourage you to join me online or at a local library and "look it up."  Then, listen to this Footsteps feature from Felix Widmer.
