Jesus said "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.  Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit"  (John 15:1-2).  It seems obvious.  If we want to live fruitful lives, then God WILL pull out the pruning shears!  At times, we might not like the pruning process, but our Heavenly Father is a master gardener and He certainly knows what He's doing.
