I've heard Josh McDowell say many times, "Rules without relationship leads to rebellion."  I would say that his quote applies to both parent/child relationships as well as our relationship with Jesus.  You see, obedience to a set of rules, or the Law, never earned anyone a heavenly future.  Remember what Romans 3:23 (NJKV) reminds us, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  We all fall short of keeping the rules.  That's why we must rely on Jesus and His grace for salvation.  As Drew Goodman of Young LIfe in Madrid says, "It's not about religion.  It's about a relationship.  It's about a daily walk with Jesus."
