Beginning in the 1860s, Scottish scientist James Maxwell Hughes began writing theories about electromagnetic radiation. In the 1880s, Heinrich Hertz was able to actually transmit and receive radio waves. Later, around the turn of the century, Guglielmo Marconi invented the radio. Then, over the next two to three decades, David Sarnoff, who worked for Marconi, put two and two together and came up with the idea of broadcasting. And while these men were all listed in my broadcasting text books, the history of radio is incomplete without the mention of God. It was God who spoke radio waves into existence. It was God who created all of these men with minds capable of harnessing and utilizing radio waves. And, I would go a step farther--it was God, in his foreknowledge and sovereignty, who designed radio with the intention of using it to spread His Word to the world. Now, let's take this argument to the next logical step--it is still God who is behind the creation and use of the internet and smartphones to spread the Gospel around the globe. There is no doubt that Satan has hijacked radio, television, the internet, and smartphones, but in today's Footsteps, Bible teacher Ray Pritchard of Keep Believing Ministries tells a great story of how God is undoubtedly using these inventions for the good of His Kingdom.
