As we eagerly anticipated Christmastime, we at the Americas offices found ourselves in unknown territory, celebrating the birth of our Savior during the most difficult year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of our staff members were working remotely, but as people slowly returned to the office, we thought it would be fun to host a convivial Christmas-themed office decorating competition!
Our Marketing and Communications department (also known as Marcom) brainstormed ways to create good, wholesome fun in a safe working environment. We had three goals in mind. First, we wanted to create a spirit of camaraderie and creativity. Our second goal involved socially distancing to maintain precautions. To keep things safe, everyone submitted videos and photos to enter the competition. Lastly, we wanted to have two fun categories: a department competition and an individual office competition.
To our delight, many staff members eagerly participated. We saw our vision coming to life as decorations went up overnight, giving new meaning to “decking the halls.”
For the department competition, the TWR MOTION team impressed everyone with their innovative “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” video. Ministry Services showed us how actively they serve our office by presenting themselves as Santa’s elves. They produced an upbeat slide show of their joyful activities and included the work they do to keep us safe and functioning all year round. Marcom displayed their creativity in an interactive “Polar Express” video including a conductor, a working toy train, hot cocoa, and yuletide-themed pajamas. And to round out the competition, our Human Resources and Spanish departments banded together to take everyone on a tour of Christmas around the world — including a Christmas nativity made from office supplies!
Amazingly, the competition ended in a three-way tie, with the winning departments celebrating by sharing pizza together!
The individual office competition included festive displays such as Charlie Brown Peanuts Christmas, a candy cane wonderland, Christmas in the woods and a sports car bringing home a Christmas tree. The director of radio partnerships, John Summerville, won by a landslide. He totally enchanted us with his view of Christmases past. His office was decorated with retro games and vintage toys that captured the spirit of Christmas past.
The whole experience left everyone excited for the next Christmas office decoration party. Until then, we wish you a very Merry Christmas!
