Cryptocurrency investors with a heart for missions have a convenient, new method for helping TWR share the gospel with unreached people around the world.
TWR announced this week that it is partnering with leading cryptocurrency donation platform Engiven. The partnership enables us to securely receive donations of Bitcoin, Ethereum, USD Coin and dozens of other cryptocurrencies and then swiftly put them to work sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in 300 languages and 190 countries.
“TWR has always been open, even eager, to explore and leverage new technologies for the Great Commission, and we strive to put them to expert use,” TWR President Lauren Libby said. “But the ultimate focus is never the innovation itself. We’re focused on Jesus Christ and telling every person on earth about him. Today, I believe God will use every method to enable media to overcome barriers and touch lives in hard-to-reach lands.”
Beginning in 1954, visionary TWR founder Paul Freed led our ministry to establish a small radio station in Morocco to broadcast gospel programs to Spain. Over the decades, TWR’s broadcast footprint grew as our technology toolkit expanded: AM, FM and shortwave radio; superpower broadcasting hubs; web portal TWR360.org, which gives free access to over 1,100 Christian programs from over 300 ministry partners; animated videos created with and for church planters; and other platforms.
During the past decade or so, the development of blockchain technology led to the creation of increasingly popular cryptocurrency. Crypto is a form of digital money, with thousands of currencies now in existence and a total value exceeding $2.5 trillion. Cryptography, the science of encoding and decoding data, enables these virtual currencies to be created and transacted across decentralized computer systems, which operate outside the control of governments.
Through our partnership with Engiven, TWR will have a highly secure system for receiving crypto donations and quickly converting them into U.S. dollars. The Engiven platform also provides donors with a strong tax-benefit option and charitable-giving opportunities at the end of the year.
With the drop-down menu on the page, crypto contributors can quickly and conveniently select among three giving options: the Global Media Outreach Fund, staff support and TWR projects. In the “Memo” space on the form, donors can further refine where they wish their gifts to be used by typing in the name of a specific staff member or project.
In addition, crypto contributors not only can make a quick and easy one-time gift to a project but also can reuse the system-created wallet address to make future gifts without having to fill out the form again. And contributors who wish to remain anonymous can indicate that preference by simply checking a box.
TWR won’t hold donated cryptocurrency as an investment; instead, with Engiven’s help, it will treat the gifts like cash, routing the immediately converted funds to the contributor’s selected outreach. Listeners around the world count on TWR to bring the gospel, encouragement and discipleship in their heart languages over multiple media.
“The whole of Serbia is hungry for God’s Word, and that is why I am grateful to God for giving us this blessing,” one listener emailed in response to our broadcast of Thru the Bible. “Thanks also to all workers, donors and servants of God who are involved in this production. Whenever we listen, we feel the touch of God and his messages touching our hearts."
