CAMBODIA


  • Khmer is the official language. It is considered to have the longest alphabet in the world with 36 vowels and 33 consonants.
  • Each month TWR Cambodia receives approximately 1,000 listener letters, despite an unreliable mail system.
  • 19 TWR staff members serve in the Cambodian office.
  • TWR works with 522 churches and 416 pastors throughout the country.
  • The country’s population is 14.6 million.
  • Approximately 1.6 percent of the country’s population is Christian, and the major religion is Buddhism.
  • During the Pol Pot and Khmer Rouge regime from 1975-1978, the fledgling Christian church was almost wiped out, and only two or three pastors survived.
  • TWR’s programs are aired on 13 local FM stations throughout Cambodia.
  • Some 30 different people groups exist in Cambodia.
