Question: What do mechanical engineering, cyber security, business administration, and studio and digital arts have in common?

Answer: All are majors represented among interns who will serve this summer with TWR.

All told, 16 young adults, either in college or recently graduated, will serve at TWR’s U.S. office in Cary, North Carolina, and at six international sites.

“This is our biggest group of interns in several years, definitely since before COVID,” said Jennifer Bozeman, U.S. coordinator of short-term missions and college recruiting for TWR.

The eight men and eight women come from 11 different schools and offer a variety of skills. In addition to the majors listed above, the group also includes computer science; computer engineering; electrical engineering; accounting; communications and media; and English/creative writing majors. Most of the engineering students will serve at one of five TWR transmission sites overseas.

The interns, who raise their own support, aren’t doing it for the money.

“It’s a sacrifice for them to give their summer, their time; and some of them turn down what could be financially fruitful internships,” Bozeman said.

But they are given the opportunity to learn how God can use their skills in the mission field. And those skills are being used in meaningful ways.

“If it’s an engineer they’re getting engineering skills,” Bozeman said. “If it’s graphic design, they’re practicing their graphic design skills. If it’s in accounting, they’re doing accounting. We often say these interns aren’t making coffee.”

TWR benefits from being exposed to the next generation of ministry, she said. “On top of that it’s a huge blessing because we get young, fresh ideas and perspectives from interns. They bring a lot of energy to the team, whether that’s here in Cary or overseas.”

TWR’s interns already have started to look for financial partners to make their summer work possible. You can learn more about that, and meet all of the interns from Abbie to Zach, here.

You might also be able to reap the blessings.

“If a 20-year-old is able to go, then we need the people to hold the ropes, if you will, or support them and say, ‘We’re going to give so that you can go,’” Bozeman explained. “We all have a role to play in the Great Commission.”
