Project Hannah, which takes its name from the biblical woman, Hannah (1 Sam. 1:1-28), was founded in 1997 by Awareness Advocate Marli Spieker. Marli and her husband, Edmund, were Trans World Radio missionaries in Asia when God impressed upon her the many women who are trapped in spiritual, cultural, and physical bondage.

Testimony of Thanks

Since October 2000, Project Hannah has been airing Women of Hope in Spanish. At that time, WoH was broadcast from Bonaire and Uruguay, but now, it is heard in 22 countries!

Response has been overwhelmingly positive, as listeners have written letters and e-mails, made phone calls, and even personally visited the office in Montevideo, Uruguay, where the program is produced. Project Hannah staff respond to each request, praying for and giving literature to women hurting from personal problems in their homes or marriages.

“I’m thankful to God because He has given me the responsibility to produce a program that, through the testimonies we receive, is a help and inspiration to many people,” says Spanish WoH producer Sonia Larrosa. One such testimony is from a woman in Venezuela. She wrote, “I always eagerly await your program. All the subjects edify my life and encourage me to continue on despite my daily struggles and tensions. My family doesn’t believe that God exists, but I am learning through Women of Hope that God is real and I want Him in my life.”

With more than 41.3 million Hispanics in the United States–and that number ever increasing–a need is developing to reach out to Latino women in North America as well. In fact, 20 of the stations that air the Spanish WoH are in the U.S., marking the first Project Hannah programming in the country.

One Ecuadorian woman in Miami, Florida, wrote to say how much the programs meant to her especially because she was in prison. “It was here that the Lord found me, and I surrendered myself to Him,” she said. “Your words greatly enrich my spirit, and I ask that you continue this work because for those of us here in jail, your message helps us very much.”
