The Privilege
of Prayer
by Tina Sessoms, international prayer coordinator
"Please pray for me!" These words are often spoken
by Project Hannah's Women of Hope radio broadcast listeners.
Wives struggling to please their husbands and in-laws. Mothers
striving to care for children. Women trying to improve their
lifestyles without falling into abusive situations. When we
feel their pain, it is not a burden to carry them before God's
throne.
When Marli Spieker asked me to join Project Hannah's team as
international prayer coordinator, I accepted because I believe
in prayer. Even after 25 years of ministry as a pastor's wife,
missionary teacher, and mentor to young women, there is still
much I don't understand. But I am convinced that God wants us
to pray. He wants to talk to us and hear our praises and concerns.
Scripture tells us that "God is near us whenever we pray
to him" (Duet. 4:7), and He will respond, "Call to
me and I will answer you" (Jer. 33:3).
Daily I read news articles that depict horrible realities. Women
and girls are used, abused, and even killed. Yet the world keeps
silent! It breaks my heart, and I'm sure it breaks God's heart.
I don't understand why this evil is allowed to continue. But
I believe with every fiber of my being that God has a plan,
and He is at work.
Prayer is our opportunity to participate in what God is doing
to bring about His purpose. "If my people, who are called
by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face
and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven
and will forgive their sin and will heal their land" (2
Chronicles 7:14). It is humbling to be part of God's plan.
For one year, 12 ladies prayed for the unloved and forgotten
women of the world. Today PH intercessors in more than 80 countries
continue to uplift these suffering women, using PH's monthly
prayer calendar in 20 languages. God is calling more to this
journey every day. Will you join us?
