October 2001 - "Just Give Me
Prayers"
"God has given us prayer because Jesus has given us missions,"
said noted author John Piper. Project Hannah's (PH) mission
is to encourage and comfort hopeless women around the world,
and to lead them to Jesus Christ–our blessed hope. This
is a "God-size" task which can be accomplished only
if we pray.
Since God showed me in the streets of Asia how Satan is ravaging
women's lives, engulfing them in hopelessness and spiritual
darkness, I have become a crusader calling Christians to come
out of their comfort zones to do what I call the "work"–to
pray and stand in the gap for those who do not have a prayer
to say for themselves. I am convinced that "prayer is the
work; ministry is reaping the results!" This has become
PH's motto.I
The plight of women worldwide attests to the fact that a war
is being raged against women–a war which started in the
garden of Eden when Eve was deceived by Satan. Since that darkest
day in human history, Satan has systematically used women for
his destructive purposes. We know that the ultimate war is between
Satan and Jesus Christ. However, God said, "I will set
enmity between you and the woman; between your seed and her
seed" (Gen.3:15). This enmity is the root cause of the
unspeakable suffering women have endured for centuries. Countless
women are "at the end of their broken dreams... and they
need the Lord!" – the Seed of the woman, the only
One who can deliver them from Satan's power.I
Prayer is the backbone of PH. It is the most important aspect
of its ministry. PH's first official event was to call for 40
days of prayer and fasting because we believe that prayer is
fundamental. Prayer is NOT an option, neither is it the last
resource after everything else has failed. Prayer changes things,
and prayer changes people! Prayer can make us into "world
changers!" (James 5:16b) .
As God's power is released through our prayers, He can reverse
the tide of these staggering facts:
~The skyrocketing profits of the drug war with all its devastating
casualties has been overshadowed by this new fad called sex
industry or sex tourism, a $3.5-billion enterprise where women
are enslaved to a life of misery and indignity.
~Two-thirds of the world live in poverty and ignorance. Women
and girls, as always, are at the bottom of the pile.
In spite of it all, we have hope! As we pray, God uses us
to make a difference in many a woman's life. We have authority
in Christ over Satan to thwart his plans and pull down his
strongholds (Eph.6:10-15). No wonder Satan does not want us
to pray!
God gave us prayer because Jesus gave us the mission of redemption.
Please join PH's prayer movement and pray for abused women
worldwide. Pray their sorrows would be turned into shouts
of joy! Can you hear God saying, "Just give Me your prayers"?
