The Need
A river of tears is flowing throughout this world. Tears of
deep pain, disappointment, regret, shame, hopelessness.... Tears
shed by millions of women worldwide who are ensnared by fear
and despair. They battle abuse, discrimination, even persecution.
Many times, they are unwanted and unloved from the moment they
are born. Rejected, sometimes abandoned, they cry out, "Am
I valuable to somebody?"
The plight of women worldwide...
Every 60 seconds, a woman is raped in South Africa, and a teardrop
falls.
Every 18 minutes, a woman is beaten in the United States. Another
teardrop joins the first.
And another, as two women are killed each week in Canada. Tears
fall fast now, trickling into one another, forming an overwhelming
flood of hurt and anguish...
· As much as 90 percent of the female population in Pakistan
is affected by domestic violence, and 70 percent in Brazil and
Peru
· Sixty-six percent of the world's illiterates are women.
· One million children, mostly girls, become prostitutes
every year.
· Two million women and children are trafficked globally
each year.
· 100 million women worldwide have undergone Female Genital
Mutilation. Two million girls are circumcised each year. One
in four girls and women die as a result of this barbaric rite.
Is there hope for these women drowning in the flood of their
tears? How can they know that a new life–one full of love,
joy, and freedom–awaits them? Through Project Hannah's
inspiring radio broadcasts, and the prayers of intercessors
across the globe, countless women are discovering that Jesus
Christ knows them, cares for them, and offers them true peace.
Christ's love and hope enable them to live above their desperate
circumstances. And then they can rejoice in Him and declare,
"For You have rescued my soul from death, my eyes from
tears, my feet from stumbling." (Psalms 116:8, NASB) |
