Project Hannah, which takes its name from the biblical woman, Hannah (1 Sam. 1:1-28), was founded in 1997 by Awareness Advocate Marli Spieker. Marli and her husband, Edmund, were Trans World Radio missionaries in Asia when God impressed upon her the many women who are trapped in spiritual, cultural, and physical bondage.

2002: A Year of Answers

January (Angola): As PH's intercessors prayed throughout January for Angola, God was working to bring peace to this war-torn land. A peace treaty was signed in March 2002 to bring an end to Angola's 27-year civil war.

February (Afghanistan): As we continued our years of prayer for the women "behind the veil," we were excited to see God using the media and world leaders to reveal the horrible treatment of women in Afghanistan. Slowly, they are regaining their dignity.

March (Indonesia): PH's team is full of passion and envisions translating the Women of Hope program into as many of Indonesia's languages as God provides the finances. Currently, they are translating the broadcast into Indonesian, Javanese, and Madurese, and volunteers are interested in working on Sundanese.

April (sex slavery): We prayed that those who oppress and abuse young girls and women in the sex industry would be exposed. We've been hearing steady reports of crack downs by officials, and arrests of people involved in child pornography and selling humans.

May (mothers): God led TWR Canada to sponsor the WoH program in Portuguese for Angola. By the end of 2002, they raised the full support for one year and also purchased needed office equipment.

June (China): The media reported that Chinese officials were beginning to acknowledge that the "one-child policy" has caused enormous problems with "dire consequences for the future," particularly causing a disturbing gender imbalance. Laws are being written to protect unborn baby girls!

July (Women who do not read): We are aware of the needs of illiterate women worldwide, and God is opening doors for PH to partner with other organizations to meet these needs.

August (North Korea): We prayed for the isolated and starving people of North Korea. Soon after, we received reports that North Korea desires to open up relationships with Japan, South Korea, Russia, and the United States. God is at work!

September (Bolivia): We prayed for Spanish-speaking women in South, Central, and North America. In January, the WoH Spanish program was aired over 67 radio stations in 12 countries. Today, it is heard over more than 100 stations in 14 countries.

October (40-day Journey of Prayer and Fasting): Many of PH's intercessors committed to fasting and prayer for 40 days in October and early November. We received inspiring reports of God's moving in the lives of those praying and in answer to prayers.

November (Praise & Thanksgiving): During November we celebrated, not only in Cary, but around the world to give praise and thanksgiving to our Lord for the lives He has changed through Project Hannah. God knows the results of this "work of prayer" of our worldwide intercessors.

December (Salvation): What a great privilege to carry to the throne of God women from around the world in need of salvation! We look forward to hearing more reports of those who are now in God's family. Also in December, God met PH's financial needs through the sacrificial small and large gifts of many. He is our Provider!
