Where were you when the events of 9/ll happened? That’s the question of the day, isn’t it? I remember. Do you?
Eight years ago on September 11, I was seated at my desk at Trans World Radio’s (TWR) international headquarters offices in Cary, North Carolina. That’s exactly where I am this morning. Eight years ago, we as a staff were summoned to the lobby of our building to pray during those tragic hours. Again this morning, as we have done annually since that infamous day, we gathered in TWR’s lobby to pray and remember 9/ll and those who have been directly affected by those events. You know…that’s all of us.
This morning we encouraged one another with the same message which TWR proclaims 24/7—the Gospel of Jesus Christ! One significant truth of this Gospel is that we who are in Christ have been given an unshakeable hope. And we have the Holy Spirit as a guarantee. Be comforted by these words of the Apostle Paul, “But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep” (I Thessalonians 4:13-14 ESV). What hope!
But while we wait for the fulfillment of that hope, we who are in Christ are to exercise the ministry with which we have been entrusted…the ministry of reconciliation. We are to persuade others. The love of Christ compels us. Let these words of Paul from 2 Corinthians 5, verse 20 be our heart’s cry: “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.”
And they are coming from every tribe, every tongue, and every nation! Hallelujah!
