A Cry for the Oppressed

We praise you, God, for you created us, as women, in our inmost being and knit us together in our mother’s womb. We praise you God for you are our Protector, Husband, Provider, Healer and we are special to you.

Thank you, God, for covering us with the precious blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Thank you, Jesus, for making it possible to hide in the secret place of the Most High God. Thank you, God, for you are our Refuge, our Fortress and in you, we will trust.

Father, you have given your people a song: “If God be for us, who can be against us.” And, as I sing this song for the oppressed women, let my voice carry it to the nations, to all the suffering, abused women around the globe.

Empower us, Lord of Justice, to intervene on behalf of the widow, to defend the orphan and to rescue the oppressed. May we do so by the love and power of Jesus Christ, the Holy One.

For we ask these things in your name, with thanksgiving and praise, for all that you have done and will continue to do in our lives and in the lives of those who call you Lord. Amen.*

In November 1997, Project Hannah (PH), TWR’s innovative outreach to women by women, was founded by Marli Spieker. Marli and her husband, Edmund, were TWR missionaries in Asia when God impressed upon her heart the many suffering women trapped in spiritual, cultural and physical bondage. God’s love in her heart compelled her to reach out to those who are living unloved and forgotten lives, and let them know about Jesus. Prayer became the backbone of this ministry and it still is. Many women and men worldwide are participating in PH’s Global Prayer Movement.

In October 1998, the first Women of Hope radio broadcast in English was aired from TWR’s transmitting site on Guam. This 30-minute program prepares the barren soil of women’s hearts, waters the seeds of hope in the Lord and brings the message of redemption and a new identity in Christ.

Today, through its Women of Hope broadcasts in more than 50 languages, follow-up work, face-to-face contacts and on-the-ground ministry, PH is being used of God to touch the lives of countless women. As we speak, PH is seeking to expand its outreach to Arabic-speaking women and Turkish-speaking women.
