Ministry Projects : Evangelistic Outreach to the Tharu of Nepal

The Tharu is largest and oldest ethnic group of the Terai region, the southern plains along the length of the Nepalese foothills. Living in villages near dense, malaria-infested jungles, most Tharu make their livelihood as farmers or peddlers. Although physically similar to other peoples in the area, they speak their own Tharu language. The total population of Tharu in Nepal is 1,935,000. A smaller number of Tharu live in India.
According to www.josphuaproject.net , less than 1 percent of the Tharu in Nepal are Christian. Most subscribe to beliefs that are a mixture of animism and other religions.
TWR Nepal is endeavoring to reach approximately 481,000 Tharu people who live in the Lumbini and Rapti Zones of Nepal, through gospel radio programs produced and broadcast in their own language. These programs will be broadcast over local FM radio, which is both popular and the most accessible mass media in the country.
Your gift of $100 will help toward production and airtime costs for 15-minute gospel programs twice a week from two FM stations in Central Nepal. We hope to see the Tharu people changed and transformed by the living Word of God.
