Ministry Projects : Evangelistic Outreach to the Tamang People Group of Nepal

The Tamang are one of several ethnic groups living in Nepal descended from Tibeto-Burman origins. The word Tamang may be derived from the Tibetan words "ta" (meaning "horse") and "mang" (meaning "soldier"). Living mainly north and east of the country, they constitute 5.6 percent of Nepal's population. According to Joshua Project, only 3.43 percent of Tamang in Nepal are Christian. The Tamang live mainly in the high hills surrounding Kathmandu Valley in the central part of Nepal. This Tibeto-Burman speaking ethnic group derives their subsistence mainly as porters for traders and trekking expeditions.
TWR Nepal is endeavoring to reach out to the more than 788,000 Tamang people in Central Nepal by producing and airing 15-minute gospel programs in the Tamang language, twice a week, from two FM stations in the region. We believe that God will work in the hearts of those in the Tamang community who hear and apply His Word to their lives. We hope to see the Tamang community changed and transformed by the Holy Spirit.
This project has a total cost of $4,000. Your support of $100 or more will go a long way toward giving the Tamang people the opportunity to hear God's life-saving and life-changing message.
