Ministry Projects : China's Orality Project for the Amdo Tibetan People

In the remote highlands of China live the Amdo Tibetans, a people group of approximately 1.2 million who work as herdsmen and farmers in this desolate and harsh region. As oral communicators, they prefer to pass along their beliefs, heritage and important information through stories, songs and other methods beyond the written word. They have practiced their chosen religion for generations, never hearing about Jesus Christ in their heart language.
To reach the Amdo Tibetan people in culturally relevant ways, TWR has worked with partners to produce a set of radio programs that consists of Tibetan folk legends, Bible stories, believers' testimonies and Christian worship songs. Due to the lack of Tibetan producer, the SW broadcast that was started since 2004 has ceased temporarily in 2008 until we find mature Tibetan believers who can commit to the production work. Currently TWR is using focus media-- namely, portable audio players and mobile phone memory cards-- to continue distributing a selection of the Amdo programs.
