Ministry Projects : New Hope - Radio Program for Berber Kabyle Young Adults

In early 2008, the freedom that the Berber Kabyle church in North Africa had experienced began slipping away. The government, bolstered by the media and informants, enforced a new law prohibiting evangelism. Already, 20 of more than 60 churches in the Kabyle region have been closed. In the midst of these closures, the producer of TWR's New Hope, program received desperate pleas from listeners. "We have no church fellowship anymore," they said. "Now the radio programs are the only way for us to be fed. Our only hope is in the program. Will it continue?" Thousands of believers will turn to this program as their one remaining tool to get spiritual teaching. The producer says, "Many look at me as an older sister."

Thanks to the program, many young adults like Sarah have found a true hope. She is the only one in her family who listens to the program. They locked her up when they found out that she believed in Christ. Her younger sister gave her food in secret. Finally, her family allowed her to go free on the condition that she would not speak about her faith or go to church. The program's producer was the first person Sarah entrusted with the secret that she was sexually abused; the producer had her undergo a medical check-up. Little by little, the family's attitude changed as they saw their daughters life completely altered. Now, they welcome the producer in the family.

New Hope is touching the hearts of Berber Kabyle young adults by showing them love, giving spiritual guidance and providing a lighthouse of hope as churches around them are forced to shut down.

A donation of $39 will pay for one minute of this desperately needed program.

This project is part of the Berber Ministries in North Africa group.
