Ministry Projects : Unreached People Groups of West Africa
TWR's AM station in Benin lies in a very strategic location for reaching some of Africa's remaining unreached people groups. The approximately three million Zerma people of West Africa live mainly in Niger and are a subset of the larger Songhai people group. Efforts to reach the Zerma have included the Jesus Film, which has been widely viewed among the Zerma, and the complete Bible in their own language of Zarma. There are also some chronological Bible stories that have been completed in the Zarma language in order to teach the truths of God's Word to the Zerma using their own tradition of storytelling. Yet the Zerma remain classified as a "least-reached" people group. Their religion combines Islam with elements of spiritism, magic and sorcery.
Just south and west of Niger, in the tiny country of Togo, the Kotokoli people share similar characteristics with the Zerma in their religion and daily lives of farming and trading. They speak the Tem language, and like the Zerma, there are few Christians among them.
These two people groups of West Africa, classified as two of the worlds “fewest followers of Christ,” need the hope found in Jesus. Through TWR’s partnership with OneStory, our goal is to translate the chronological Bible story sets in the mother-tongues of the Zerma in Niger and the Kotokli in Togo, then develop them into radio broadcasts that can be aired over TWR’s station in Benin. TWR also seeks to improve service to other tribes from Mali to Nigeria, including the Hausa, Kanuri, Fulani, Senoufo and Tuareg.
Your prayers and generous gifts to this project will help make it a reality.
