Ministry Projects : Outreach to Japan

In Japan, over 70 percent of Japanese people claim no personal religion; however, the majority still subscribe to a combination of Buddhist and Shinto beliefs and rituals. The Japanese identity is closely tied to these religious beliefs, and the polytheistic nature of their worldview has allowed for the recent increase of offshoot religious movements. Only about 1.54 percent of its 127 million people is Christian. It has been reported that there is an increased level of spiritual searching due to a combination of factors: the threat and occurance of natural disasters like the 2011 earthquakes and tsunami, an economic decline, a widening generation gap and general feelings of social isolation.

  • In the wake of the 2011 tsunami, TWR is preparing a long-term counseling program in Japanese to meet the psychological, emotional and spiritual needs of the survivors. This weekly 15-minute broadcast seeks to provide counsel and coping skills, encouragement from fellow disaster survivors, aid information and gospel music to minister to listeners.

  • TWR currently broadcasts Bible study programs in the Japanese language. These programs are aired three to five times a day, depending on the program, via satellite radio.

  • TWR is also looking to minister to Japanese youth through gospel music. Many Japanese youth have displayed an interest in the Negro spiritual style, and we seek to bring them the gospel with muscial programs.

Your gift of $100 will enable TWR to minister to Japan through projects like these. Will you prayerfully consider coming alongside us to speak hope to the Japanese people?
