Reporting Relationships

Primary: To the Regional Finance Director
Secondary: To the Assistant Regional Director for Europe
To the Corporate Finance Department in Cary, NC, USA office

Education/Training/Spiritual position

  • Due to the religious purpose and objectives of Trans World Radio, the applicant must be in full agreement with TWR’s International Doctrinal and Position statements(*). There must also be a sense of direction from the Lord to the applicant, for (him/her) to serve in the position;
  • If married, the candidate’s spouse must also be in agreement with TWR’s Doctrinal and Position statements;
  • College or University Degree (4 years) in Accounting (or equivalent standing as professional accountant);
  • Training in or understanding of North American standards for financial statement preparation;
  • Familiarity with “Generally Accepted Accounting Principles” (GAAP), as defined by the US Financial Accounting Standards Board, the American Institute for Certified Public Accountants, and other authoritative bodies.

Experience

  • Experience in Accounting Intensive, Computerized Environment - preferably with “hands-on” experience in bookkeeping/accounting;
  • Experience in working in a multi-national company (MNC) environment, with dual reporting relationships regionally and corporately;
  • Experience managing foreign currencies and working in a multi-currency environment;
  • Experience in accounting for not-for-profit organizations;
  • Experience with fund accounting;
  • Experience in management and follow up of “Accounts Receivable” function;
  • Experience in relating and reporting to Senior Management;
  • Basic understanding of Information Systems and Information Technology (IS/IT) terminology and practice would be decided advantage.

Demonstrated Skills

  • The candidate should exhibit good written and oral communication skills (in English), and be comfortable speaking in committee meetings. He/she should also have either training or experience in people management, demonstrating ability to function in a multi-cultural setting;
  • The candidate should demonstrate ability to function and work successfully in cross-cultural situations. Good organizational skills and the ability to handle project management should be evident;
  • The candidate should have ability in construction and presentation of specialized financial reports, especially in spreadsheet format; skill in computerized spreadsheet environment will be a definite asset;
  • As a “supported missionary volunteer”, the candidate will be expected to raise his/her support, and to report back to his support team on “furlough” approximately every three years.

Physical, Visual, Mental Effort

  • Some overtime work will be encountered, during peak seasons (year-end and budget);
  • Some stress may be encountered, related to meeting deadlines, making presentations to management, and maintaining the required level of support;
  • Some traveling may be required, particularly when filling in for Finance Director.

Helpful Additional Qualifications

  • Good skills in a second European language, though not required, would be of benefit to the person in this position;
  • Sensitivity to (and in) diverse cultural situations is necessary. Ability to work with people from numerous protestant denominational backgrounds is required.

Specific Job Responsibilities

A. Budgeting

  • assist in preparation of departmental expense budgets;
  • assist in preparation of regional income forecasts;
  • assist in entry of budget details into Navision software system;

B. Accounts Receivable

  • will have primary responsibility for all “receivable” activity in Europe;
  • recommendations for additional internal controls, where necessary, and adherence to those already in place;
  • reporting to Finance Director and (at year end) to Cary office concerning A/R positions and/or problems;
  • contribute to development of monthly cash request forms by advising Finance Director of expected receipts from the accounts under his/her control;

C. Fixed Assets:

  • will have primary responsibility for maintenance of Fixed Asset records for TWR-site, and supervisory responsibility for similar records in the rest of the Region;
  • working with Cary office, will have the responsibility for maintaining the Regional insurance records, to ensure our portion of the Global coverage is adequate.

D. Reporting

  • advise Finance Director concerning any unusual fiscal events or activity;
  • preparation of government and other reports as required;
  • other reports as may be requested from time to time.

E. Other Accounting functions

  • will be required to fully learn the Fund Accounting for Navision software, in order to be able to fill in for other accounting staff when necessary;
  • will assist in the preparation of year-end account review work papers;
  • will be involved in routine accounting functions, such as preparation of Bank Reconciliations, Journal Entries, reconciling and adjusting accounts, etc.;
  • will be involved in the periodic inventory of Fixed Assets in the Region;
  • in the absence of the Finance Director, may need to participate in RMT meetings;
  • may be required to provide assistance to other Regional finance offices, if emergency situations arise.
