TWR-Europe Director of the Broadcast Department
Job Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this position is to assist the Broadcast Department in a variety of administrative tasks. These tasks will include (but are not limited to): processing listener
response reports, entering data into the Broadcast Operating System, assisting in special projects and general administrative duties.
Key Result Area: Listener Response Reports
- Coordinate and oversee the flow of reports and letter response excerpts from broadcasters/producers to sponsors and other TWR offices. Gather and send feedback and encouragement to supporting groups, organizations and individuals.
- When asked, fill out surveys for partners or sponsors concerning sponsored programs.
Key Result Area: Broadcast Operating System
- Help keep the various data of the programs being broadcast in our region up-to-date and correct, so that the contracts for the broadcasters, the billing process, the tape traffic, the information to the various stations, etc. is correct and can function properly.
- BOS** Data Entry: Be familiar with BOS and help make service agreement entries and changes and keep program, sponsorship and airing details current.
- Work with other TWR Regions as they set up services sponsored by European organizations.
- Inform Area Agents in other regions of air time changes entered on their sponsor’s contracts.
- Print, verify and send out contracts where the Area Agent is TWR-Europe
- When necessary, prepare, print and distribute Detailed Program Schedule pages.
- When requested, work from BOS to extract needed information and reports.
** The TWR Broadcast Operating System (BOS) is a custom-designed software program and our primary tool for setting up broadcaster agreements, scheduling, providing program and air time records, billing and invoicing.
Key Result Area: Special Projects
- Assist the Director of the Broadcast Department with various one-time projects.
- Assist the Director of the Broadcast Department with the coordination of some of the ongoing radio programs and projects.
Key Result Area: General Administrative Duties
- Help answer inquires about broadcast matters. Upon request, provide various program / broadcast details and other related information.
- Assist with program scheduling changes. (This may include correspondence, checking the new printed schedules, checking the short wave protocol prepared by the Frequency Department, keeping records of upcoming changes, etc.)
- Temporarily take over certain tasks for furloughing or vacationing members of the department (when assigned to do so by the department leader, and if time allows).
- Participation in our department meetings (usually every two weeks).
- Other areas might be identified at a later stage.
Please Note: After a one-year period, it is expected that the new staff member will be familiar with the operation of the Broadcast Department. Based on that person’s qualifications and talents, and an evaluation of his/her first year of work, his/her tasks may be adjusted according to his/her abilities and the needs of the Broadcast Department. This job description would then be modified accordingly.

Broadcast Department Purpose
All European, Middle Eastern, North African and Central Asian broadcast administration activities and information are directed through the Broadcast Department so that our cooperating broadcasters, European partners and various language departments are properly served in their broadcast, programming and production needs. The department is also involved in program scheduling, project development and coordination, air time budgeting, program reporting, data entry into BOS and broadcast training.
Candidate Specifications

- Accurate. You must be able to enter data in the computer in an accurate and precise manner.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Skilled at gathering information and communicating via e-mail.
- Able to function and work successfully in cross-cultural situations.
- Willingness to work as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications
- Fluent in oral and written English (as an international office, we do all of our work in the English language.)
- Basic skills in mathematics such as currency conversion, figuring percentages, etc.
- Good communication and writing skills. Able to compile detailed information into a concise report.
- Computer Skills. You should be able to use email, Microsoft Word, and Excel spreadsheets.
- Typing skills. You should be able to type quickly and accurately.
- You should have a “service” attitude and be flexible in regard to work demands.
- You should be able to work Monday-Friday (37.5 hours per week).
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of Dutch would be extremely helpful since our office is located in the Netherlands.
- Knowledge of French or German is not necessary but would be occasionally useful.
- Problem-solving skills. When faced with a problem, being able to think on your own, come up with an appropriate solution, and implement it in an efficient manner.
- Any kind of ministry experience would be a plus.
Physical Demands
- Be willing and able to live and work in the Netherlands.
- Due to stress levels involved with international situations, new locations, etc., you should be in good health both physically and mentally.
- Responsibilities are office related and computer intensive.

Summary
This is a full-time administrative position. Even though there is some variety to the tasks, most of the time will be spent sitting in front of a computer terminal. That is why computer and typing skills are important. The person will also deal with a lot of information and many details, and therefore needs to be accurate and organized. Some of the work will be mundane and repetitious but some of the tasks will also be quite challenging. Since there will be a lot of communicating via email, the person needs to be clear, concise, and thorough in the way he/she communicates.
In the beginning, the person taking on this responsibility will need to work closely with the director of the Broadcast Department and the Department Secretary. He/she will be trained to gradually take on the various tasks that are listed in the job description. The “Key Result Areas” may need to be modified depending on the workload and needs of the department.
