Jorani* grew up believing in evil spirits her whole life. Her mother made a business out of it as a medium, and was grooming Jorani to take her place some day. So she thought nothing of wearing a lucky charm as protection against evil spirits and ghosts. The raw cotton string that was tied around her waist seemed to serve just that purpose. But she wondered why she still had fears.
Years passed, Jorani got married and had a son. Every day she visited the local water pump and met with a woman who was a Christian. As time passed, their friendship grew—as did Jorani’s curiosity. Eventually, she decided to commit her life to Jesus and started attending a small prayer group. As a young Christian, however, Jorani found it difficult to give up some of her old ways. She was still scared of evil spirits, especially the one that seemed to control her mother. She just could not bring herself to remove the string from around her waist. So Jorani turned to the leader of the prayer group, asking for prayer that she could find the faith to remove the lucky charm.
Several weeks later, Jorani was given a prayer calendar from Project Hannah, TWR’s ministry to women around the globe. That month, the calendar focused on India. As Jorani read it over and over again, she could sense the power of God and His protection for the women in India. Taking courage from these testimonies, Jorani cut the lucky charm from her waist!
Cutting cords of superstition or destructive relationships takes courage and strength. Jorani asks for prayer for her mother, and other women like her, who continue to live under the bondage of lies and spiritual oppression. Pray that they may find the truth through Jesus and be set free.
