TWR-Indonesia knows that children’s ministry is vital so the next generation will know and love God. But during a training session earlier this year, several participants asked: “How should we minister?”
Nearly 40 people, mostly TWR-Indonesia staff with a burden for children’s ministry and some local Sunday school teachers, participated in training earlier this year. The four-day session was held at TWR-Indonesia’s office and conducted by two TWR missionaries from Singapore and a trainer from Child Evangelism Fellowship.
One evangelism method they were taught is “the wordless book.” This book has no letters or pictures, just colors. Each page, a different color, corresponds with a step of explaining to a child what Jesus has done for them. This makes it easier for children to understand the concept of salvation and how to commit their lives to Jesus.
The training session not only consisted of materials, but also practice and evaluation. Every participant received provisions to evangelize children in church, Christian organizations and children’s ministry. Some practiced their skills on neighbors, their own children or children at church. One said that she was practicing the techniques with her sixth-grade son, and he asked Christ to be his personal Savior.
The participants hope that the training will become an annual event. “The first children’s ministry training is over,” says a TWR-Indonesia staff member. “But the real evangelism has just begun. Our desire is for every child to come to know Christ.
