From bustling cities to remote jungles, TWR’s women’s ministry, Project Hannah (PH), shares Christ’s compassion and hope with women across the globe. A few months ago, a PH team in Ecuador visited listeners who tune into the Quichua version of the popular Women of Hope, now airing in nearly 40 languages. Programs in additional languages are scheduled to go on the air later this year.
Many Quichua listeners are nonliterate or simply not used to communicating in written form, says Ines Vinlasaca, PH’s Quichua Women of Hope producer. As such, the team doesn’t expect written letters, but receives feedback through phone calls and personal visits. “When we meet the listeners on the streets or in church, or when they call us by phone, they say something about the Sumaj Pugyu (Women of Hope) program,” she adds. “We know it is being listened to in all the provinces of our country and even in Colombia and Venezuela.”
In March, after traveling eight hours by bus, the Ecuadorian team had a wonderful time of fellowship with 30 Quichua women, including leaders’ wives. Two days of training covered such seminar topics as leadership, domestic violence and stress/depression.
“We are thankful to God for the changes that He is doing in the lives of the listeners, and we are happy that the programs are edifying,” says Vinlasaca. “They are very useful for women, even for the unbelievers.”
The following are several testimonies from Quichua listeners:
- “We are growing spiritually through the radio programs. On behalf of my congregation, I want to extend gratitude to God and to the sisters that produce the women’s programs. They are of much help to our leaders. Don’t lose heart; keep going on. We are praying for you.”
- “I am thankful to God for HCJB [which broadcasts PH’s Quichua program in Ecuador] because by means of your radio waves you are transmitting the good news of God. The programs directed to women are especially of great blessing to my life. I am illiterate and because of this, it is impossible for me to read and study the Bible. However, in the spiritual area, I can have an influence through your teachings each week. Keep going forward.”
- “I live faraway from the city in the middle of the jungle; only the radio is my comfort. There is no church that I can attend. For this reason, I am learning the Word of God and subjects related to our daily life concerning our health, hygiene, nutrition and other things [on the radio]. I beg God that this type of program continues to be produced for many years. May God bless your production team in Ecuador as well as in other countries.”
