In Thailand, millions of women feel worthless because they do not have the opportunity to better their lives. But they accept the suffering because they feel they have no power to change their circumstances. Women often are taught to be quiet, courteous and obedient in whatever situation their families or society place them. Outwardly they smile and appear content, but very few Thai women experience a caring, supportive environment.
That’s why Project Hannah (PH) is committed to sharing Christ’s compassion with the hurting women of Thailand. PH’s popular Women of Hope program is now broadcast in nearly 40 languages, including Thai. One longtime listener recently wrote: “I have listened to your radio program for many years. Do you remember me? I attended the Women of Hope listeners’ rally about three years ago, where I accepted Christ. [Because] my husband passed away [many years ago], I have to work hard to support my two children and my father and mother. Please pray that my daughter, who is the only hope in our family, will finish her studies and get a good job to support the family.”
Twenty-one Thai women and their families now have a permanent place to live at Christian Lahu Tribal Village, a project that was initiated several years ago by one of PH’s coordinators for homeless Lahu families. More than 250 Lahu people also gather together every Sunday at a local worship center. Dr. Buakab, PH’s Thai coordinator, spoke in several women’s conferences last year across the country. She introduced Project Hannah’s ministry and its Women of Hope radio program to many Thai women. The broadcast is making an impact on their lives, as the following letter demonstrates:
“Thank you for sending me the CD and books. I have listened to it and read them very often. If you have more, please send some to me. I have to work every day, even though I am very old and sick. But your program gives me encouragement to go on with life. I would like to have a Bible and teaching tapes about God and His love. I want to be sure if I die I will go to heaven to be with Him.”
Prayer Points
- Pray for PH’s Thai team as they reach out to women in Thailand, especially those in refugee homes and prisons.
