Eternal Life for the City of Eternal Spring

Referred to as the “city of tourism and eternal spring,” Medellin, Colombia’s second largest city, is one of the more progressive cities in this South American country. Like those in many other nations in this part of the world, Medellin’s more than 3 million people face problems like alcoholism, infidelity, drug addiction, mental breakdowns and depression, to name a few. According to the Colombian census of 2005, 23.8 percent are married, 22.3 percent live in cohabitation and more than 44 percent of the population consists of single women. The number of violent deaths in Medellin is high and the most affected are youth.

Into the spiritual darkness of this city, TWR broadcasts six of its eight “City Lights” programs. A 24-hour local station in the metropolitan area of Medellin reaches all of the city and its surroundings with “City Lights” broadcasts in the evenings. Integración Familiar (Rebuilding the Family), a daily 15-minute broadcast for families, is heard Mondays through Fridays. On Saturdays, four “City Lights” programs are aired: Cosas de Nosotras, Tierra Firme (Solid Ground), Sabio y Prudente (Wisdom and Prudence) and Pedrito El Pulpo (Peter the Octopus). And on Sundays, Mujeres de Esperanza (Women of Hope)is broadcast.

Recently, a mother wrote and said how thankful she was for TWR’s “City Lights” broadcasts. “I want to thank you for the programs of TWR because they are a great edification for the entire family,” she explains. “The children’s programs on Saturday, such as Sabio y Prudente and Pedrito el Pulpo, help me greatly. I am a mother of two little ones, 2 and 4 years old, and these programs teach them a lot about God, the Bible and love toward all.” Another listener wrote: “How wonderful to know that such a special program exists, whose primary goal is to take us closer to Jesus. I love listening to you on Nuevo Continente in Medellin. Each message and each prayer that you pray for so many women is of great inspiration.”

  • Pray for TWR’s staff in Uruguay, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic, who produce the broadcasts.
